The MOZA Sequential Shifter gave me one of those review moments where a single adjustment completely changed my opinion of a product. Out of the box, I wasn’t convinced at all. It was light, extremely clicky and gave me much more audio feedback than physical feedback. It actually felt a little cheap.
Then I adjusted the resistance.
The difference was significant enough that I don’t think MOZA should ship it in its default configuration. With more tension it became quieter, more satisfying and considerably more immersive. At around €160 in Ireland at the time I reviewed it, that transformed it into a sequential shifter I could very easily recommend – with a couple of caveats.
Compact, simple and well thought out
I like the overall form factor of the MOZA Sequential Shifter. It’s compact, the handle has a really nice shape and the lever height can be adjusted. That last detail is particularly useful if you’re mounting it beside MOZA’s handbrake because you can deliberately position one higher than the other and reduce the chance of grabbing the wrong control.
MOZA also made the shifter and handbrake handles feel distinctly different rather than simply reusing the same design. I prefer the shifter handle: it’s wider at the top and narrower towards the bottom, which makes it very easy to find naturally.
There are illuminated buttons on the front whose colours can be changed through MOZA’s software. I particularly like this style of button because there’s a little physical travel rather than the very sharp click you get from some other controls. There’s also a small neutral lever which can be mapped as an input. I don’t generally need a dedicated neutral input in the sims I use, but it’s another conveniently placed control that could be assigned to something else.
Out of the box, I didn’t like it
My biggest issue appeared as soon as I started shifting. The factory resistance was simply too light for me and the mechanism was incredibly clicky. It sounded almost like an exaggerated paddle shifter rather than giving me the mechanical clunk I associate with a good sequential.
Noise by itself doesn’t bother me. I’ll happily tolerate a loud shifter when the sound accompanies a satisfying physical impact because that can actually improve immersion. The problem here was that most of what I was getting was audio feedback. I wasn’t getting enough physical feedback through my hand to justify the noise.
On track it still worked perfectly well. The travel was nice, the handle was comfortable and rapid downshifts weren’t a problem. It wasn’t going to make me slower. But from an immersion perspective I felt more like I was remotely controlling a gearbox than physically operating one.
The tension adjustment completely changes it
Fortunately there is a resistance adjustment on the side, so rather than accepting the factory feel I tightened it during the test.
That was the turning point. With more tension the shifter immediately felt substantially better and, unexpectedly, it became less noisy as well. The shift had more physical substance and the whole experience became more enjoyable and immersive.
For me, this is how the shifter should arrive from the factory.
There is a limit, though. Tighten the mechanism too far and the lever stops returning reliably to centre. I backed it off until I found what I considered the maximum usable resistance, but even there I wanted to keep an eye on whether it might loosen or become more prone to sticking over time.
Once adjusted correctly, I wouldn’t call the feel world-beating. It’s still a relatively light sequential. But it went from something I wasn’t sure I liked to something that genuinely felt good.
How does it compare with more expensive sequential shifters?
The MOZA isn’t trying to reproduce the enormous mechanical impact of the very best high-end sequential shifters. I’ve used products where the housing and mechanism give you a much stronger clunk through the entire rig, and if maximum realism is the goal those products still have an advantage.
But context matters. This was around €160 when I reviewed it. Compared with cheaper mainstream sequential options I’ve used, the MOZA has a nicer handle, better travel and a much more premium overall feel. Once the resistance is adjusted, the value proposition becomes very strong.

Standalone sequential versus H-pattern combination
My bigger reservation is actually about the type of product rather than this particular shifter. Personally, I’d prefer MOZA to offer an H-pattern shifter that can also switch into sequential mode.
A real car generally doesn’t have an H-pattern and sequential shifter occupying two completely different locations, and I don’t particularly want both taking up space on my rig either. At the time of this review I wasn’t even running an H-pattern alongside the sequential because I couldn’t justify cluttering the cockpit with both.
If you specifically want a standalone sequential, however, that criticism largely disappears. This does exactly that job, takes up relatively little room and pairs neatly with MOZA’s handbrake.
What about the MOZA H-pattern shifter?
I had also been using MOZA’s H-pattern shifter around this period. My experience there was more mixed. I had encountered some mis-shifts and occasionally found myself going into reverse by accident, although that improved as I spent more time with it.
That makes the dedicated sequential an easier product for me to assess. Its job is much simpler and, once adjusted, it performs that job reliably and pleasantly.
MOZA Sequential Shifter verdict
My opinion of the MOZA Sequential Shifter changed dramatically during the test. In its factory configuration, I didn’t like it. It was too light, too clicky and didn’t provide enough physical feedback to match the noise it made.
After increasing the resistance, it became a much better product. The mechanism felt more substantial, the shifts were actually quieter and the overall experience became considerably more immersive.
It’s still not the last word in sequential-shifter realism and I’d be cautious about tightening the resistance so far that the lever struggles to return to centre. I’d also personally prefer a combined H-pattern/sequential solution rather than dedicating cockpit space to two shifters.
But at roughly €160 at the time of my review, it’s extremely good value. If you’ve never owned a sequential shifter and want a compact standalone option, this is a very easy product to recommend. Just don’t judge it until you’ve adjusted the tension.
